Hi, I’m Ryan Michalesko, a photojournalist and conservation communicator based in Madison, Wisconsin. Currently, I work at the International Crane Foundation, a global not-for-profit organization dedicated to saving the world’s fifteen species of cranes and the vital habitats upon which they rely.

Previously, I worked as a staff photojournalist at The Dallas Morning News and interned among the award-winning teams there and at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and the Peoria Journal Star. I am a former Professional Fellow with the U.S. Department of State/International Center for Journalists, as well as a Grantee of the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting. I hold both a B.S. and M.S. in Natural Resources.

My work has been published by The New York Times, The Washington Post, Associated Press, The Guardian, among others. I have been recognized by the National Press Photographers Association Best of Photojournalism, the National Headliner Awards, the Edward R. Murrow Awards, and the Texas Association of Managing Editors, among others. While I was a student, my sports portfolio won Gold in the 72nd College Photographer of the Year Awards.
